Sensuous Description

The house was an enigma. For starters, it was the only house on Jupiter Lane. Then there was the fact that the house looked lived in even though no-one actually lived there. At least, no-one in town had ever seen anyone enter or leave. The house was remarkably well maintained. The windows were always gleaming, and none were broken like you would normally see on old abandoned houses. The lawn and garden were in pristine condition. The grass was always well-manicured and green all year round, and the garden was filled with beautiful flowers and fragrant herbs.
The first thing that Lenna noticed when she entered through the wrought iron gate was that she could now see what looked like butterflies flying around the garden, which could not be seen from the other side of the gate. Though they resembled butterflies, there was something curious about the way they moved. She shook her head and walked towards the front door, inhaling the scent of lavender which lined the walkway to the house. She walked up to the ornate front door wondering at the engraving of the Wisteria tree on it which seemed to shimmer and grow as she approached. She put her hand out and traced the engraving, surprised that it felt exactly like touching the smooth and silky blossoms of a real tree. She hesitated before knocking. The door, however, opened on its own. There was a whisper in her ear inviting her to come in, causing her to shiver slightly. She walked in and the door closed behind her.
Lenna gasped. When she entered the house, she saw the most extraordinary thing. Where other houses had walls to separate the different rooms, this house had no walls and there was a gaping chasm where a floor should have been, with the exception of a narrow ledge all around which Lenna was currently standing on. She saw that the space was filled by a giant Wisteria tree, very much like the engraving on the door. The tree seemed to go far below the house itself, the top of which she could easily step onto if she dared. She could hear the enchanting song of a bird floating up to her and could see more of the curious butterflies. But as she looked more closely at the butterflies, she realized that they weren’t butterflies at all. They were tiny fairies, flittering noiselessly through the blossoms of the tree. Lenna had to pinch herself to make sure she wasn’t dreaming.

Slow Motion Moment

She stood frozen, like a deer caught in the headlights, unable to move a muscle. Shock paralyzed her, and blood was pumping fast through her veins. She held on to the leash of her precious dog, which was whining and pulling relentlessly on the leash. It was early morning, just starting to get bright. There were only a few vehicles and pedestrians on the street; only a few witnesses to what might be her last moments on earth. A shout sounded somewhere behind her. A dark blue sedan sat idling at the intersection waiting for the traffic light to turn green. The driver’s eyes widened in surprise as he looked at his side mirror and saw the red convertible barreling down the street in the lane next to him. A man from across the street moved instinctively towards her, but he would never reach her in time. The green man, indicating that it was safe to walk across the road, glowed mockingly at her from the other side of the street. The driver of the red convertible was looking down at something. No doubt, it was his mobile device. He was completely oblivious of his surroundings, until he looked up a second later. But it was a second too late. He would never be able to slow down in time. His face registered shock. He pressed hard on the brake, causing the tyres to screech across the road. All she could do was watch as the car continued on, coming straight towards her. She released the leash as her hands instinctively came up in front of her in a futile effort to block the car from hitting her. The dog sprinted away to the other side, just in time to avoid the impact. Car horns were blaring and people were screaming all around her. Finally the car hit her with the force of a raging bull. She was thrown into the air and brought down to earth with a resounding crash.
